Mambo Number Five!!!

Why is it so cold outside! I am officially over it. I am tired of wearing jeans and scarves. My toes need to breathe in a pair of flip flops. I'm ready for it to be so hot that I can't touch my steering wheel when I first get into my car in fear of third degree burns. C'monnnnnn Summer!

Come in today to discuss these things...

Whales that attack people, The Olympics, Cowlicks, Personal Assistants, Jacked-up Haircuts, DJs, How to tie an apron, Boots, The Weather, Publix Subs, Ginger, Chili Lime Chips, Sisco Trucks, Garbage Bags, Hair thats looks like the Olympic torch, Manual Cars, Three Layers, Chik-Fil-a, Crocidiles, Las Vegas, Clothes, Weddings AND MORE!!!

When the going gets tough . . . get tougher.

Everyone was at work today. I know this sounds odd.. but this is a rarity around these parts. Between kids, husbands, boyfriends, dogs and life... it's strange to see all 7 of us under one roof at the same time. I grew up the middle child of 3, so obviously, less children in the same room meant less fights. It's nice to see that when females grow up, its possible to work under the same roof in a 1000sq ft environment and get along. It's pretty fair to say that every single of of us come from a different walk of life and are all currently dealing with our own individual hurdles in life. It's our commonalities that bring us to work every morning and our loud mouth type-A personalities that drive us all to be great friends.

Something we're all currently agreeing on?! Johnny Weir at the olympics! MAN-OH-MAN! so cute. so so cute. bring on the reality show.

In other news, our raffle is going swimmingly, thanks and good-luck to those of you who have already entered! Remember, $10 puts you in for FREE cut/colour and $20 puts you in for FREE cuts for the remainder of the year! .. OH! and don't forget that I've got big news coming to you guys soon. You're gonna like it.

Did I ever mention that we do Hair Removal Services?

Well, we do.

And if you haven't had this service done before, it is definately something to consider. Most clients have had a facial waxing before but have maybe never thought of having this done to remove hair from your armpits, legs or any other place where you are simply tired of shaving! Waxing is a great alternative because it is quick and effective. Typical waxing will last you approximately 2-3 weeks but consistant efforts will deaden your hair folicle and you will see thinner and less hair with each continual service.

Still concern-icus? The wax product we use here at Oscar and Lula's isn't even wax! It is a soy-based product called NuFree that is antimicrobial and antibacterial. Nufree does not dry so there is no 'rush-rush-rush' and it heats ONLY to your body temperature so that there is never a chance of you being burned.

Here's some pictures and a quick video of a armpit waxing service done today:

Think about your underarms feeling like a baby's bottom. Think of all the time you'll save from not having to shave. Think about summer coming up. Think about it.

Call us the Griswolds...

because we're going to Vegas!!

Our fearless leader, Daisy Chavers, is guiding us as a salon to go to Paul Mitchell's Gathering. Once a year, all Paul Mitchell stylists and salons are invited to come and learn new techniques, get hands-on education and basically re-vamp and re-energize yourself in the industry... pretty much fashion week for hairstylists.

To help us raise money for this trip, we are doing 2 great raffles here in the house:

a $10 raffle ticket will put your name in for a once-a-month drawing for a FREE cut/colour with the stylist of your choice!

a $20 raffle ticket will put your name in for a one time drawing for FREE haircuts for the rest of the year (again, stylist of choice!)

Next time you're in, help us out and get yourself signed up for your chance to win free services!!

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Where was Celine Dion last night!?!? C'mon Canada...

Oh man am I PUMPED about the 2010 Winter Olympics! I don't know when or why my obsession started - because frankly, I'm not even a 'super athelete' - but I LOVE the Olympics. I'm not going to lie Canada.. quite the disappointment for your "opening ceremony" (if thats what you want to call it.) Maybe they should have checked out Youtube to see what Bejing did... because they brought it like Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union.

On a more serious note: my sincerest condolences to the family of Nodar Kumaritashvili, the 21-year-old Georgian luger who passed yesterday in the tragic accident. Here's my favourite Olympics commercial, I think it sums up how the world views the games.

If that video doesn't pull at your heart strings.. well, then I don't even know. Anyways, for the next 16 days, be prepared to see a lot of Olympic chatter. Sorry friends. =)

It's a small brigade in the beauty parlor today. Stevie, Gerald and Myself are enjoying a quiet but busy saturday. Swing by and hang out for a bit if you want. or give us a call to schedule some QT (quality time) with your favourite stylist. 904.651.5123.

Dear NASA, I want to go to space in a non-claustrophobic environment. Love, Emily.

Busy! Busy! Busy!

With only 5 stylists holding down the fort today, we're busier than your grandmother the weekend before christmas. But, as I once heard someone say: "I'm not complaining, I'm just explaining... there's a difference." Even with this random coldfront, our clients have donned their windcheaters and braved this brutal weather. Kudos to you who made your appointments today! we love you!

There isn't much time to talk today but .. big news coming soon!!

PostScript Anne: I saw your comment and I'm working on fixing that video for you. Apparently technology and myself are having a hard time meshing.

Insanity is the new P90X

This is Shaun T. He created a workout called INSANITY. One of our unnamed stylists has recently decided that she is going to begin this workout regimen in hopes of having a (AND I quote) "bangin' body in 30 days". Lately - and by lately I mean in the past 24 hours - I've seen a lot of shirtless dudes. I had this grand idea of seeing 'Dear John' last night with my sister... MISTAKE. Not a mistake for spending time with my sister. I love sister-night. Mistake on seeing that movie. I am admitting to the world my failure. I should have just given my 5 dollars to someone in need;however, I decided to waste it on an awful movie. Really. I'm not kidding. I am officially over beefy, shirtless dudes. bring on the actual people. Why can't we just be healthy.. not psychotic? OUT: buff. IN: real.

But hey: goodluck to our unnamed stylist. ;)

Well, now that we've passed the random ...on to the important things. We have brand new hours! Oscar and Lula's will now be open on MONDAYS. Our new times are as listed:

Monday. 10-6
Tuesday. 10-8
Wednesday. 10-8
Thursday. 10-8
Friday. 10-6
Saturday. 10-5

"See ya soon then."

Mother-In-Laws: it is not your wedding... but we still love you.

Second to our salon, we love to be on sight at a fashion show doing beautiful hair. Emily Moody, owner of Anomaly and our dear friend, is hosting her second fashion show at TSI and we are proud to be representing the salon. Oscar and Lula's & Friends will be doing the hair for the evening. Come out and enjoy the Fa-fa-fa Fashion show and have a great time hanging with us! March 6th. BE THERE! =)

Emma (Emily Fletcher) has aided Ryan in bringing extension services to our salon! We are very proud and excited to now be offering full and partial extension services from Remy 909 Flashpoint. Ordered specifically for your hair straight from LA, this is real human hair so it can be styled just as you would style/colour your own! No uncomfortable braiding, sewing OR glue. (thank god.) For more info, call us up.

Here is some photos of Emma's client today recieving her a full head extension service .. and the best part? it takes about the same time as your typical colour service. =)

Dave. I just said that I party, so maybe you could do something different from me?

Our family not only works together, but we also attend 'Groundhog's Day' parties together too. Here's some lovely snapshotsof Stevie & Wendy showing us different ways to wear a foam tophat. Ignore the red eyes, apparently blackberries dont take great photos in a 'dimly lit environment'. =) Thanks to Tritt/Henderson for the invite to a one-of-a-kind party in Historic 5 Points!

Todays bleak skies have brought a nice lull to the salon. Our wonderful clients today are all relaxed which makes for great days around here. Looks like the rest of the weekend is reserved already, but, don't forget that Valentine's Day is NEXT weekend! So why not come by this week and treat your hair to some TLC. One less thing you have to worry about because we love to do your hair for you. =) Call early to be sure you receive the appointment that best suits your hectic schedule. Hope everyone is having a happy friday!

Don't be a creep.

I'd like to start off todays entry with a little dance video of the one and only Gerald doing a number from her upcoming musical "caffeine". If you are one of her clients .. please spare the world and never bring this fame monster coffee, soda, etc. =)

Wow, so much in such little time! on Monday, we hosted Nicole Miller, the glorious, for education here at the salon. Brand new colour ideas and creative new cuts from the Six Figures series. Usually, I would despise a job that requested me to come in on my day off... but this was well worth it. Next time you're in, be sure to ask your stylist about treating yourself to an Ink Manicure for your locks!

Also, today we recieved our first shipment of Classified Cosmetics! We are now offering ERA Face foundation, primer, bronzer AND shimmer. This is a water-based, continuous spray product that offers a flawless, airbrushed finish. Stevie has used this product for several years in her career as a make-up artist and is really excited to be bringing it back to Jacksonville (aka, jenkyville). We are the only business to currently be offering this product. Classified Cosmetics has been featured in publications such as: Good Housekeeping and O Magazine and was also used on the Victoria's Secret 2008 fashion models. We can't wait for you to try it!
